The Department of Education (DepEd) has already approved a list of 660 schools that will be used by local government units as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) quarantine or isolation sites, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Monday.
“Requests for use of 324 other schools are still undergoing evaluation or awaiting additional documents for compliance,” Duterte said in his fourth weekly report to Congress on the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Previously, the DepEd reported that it had approved 473 schools quarantine or isolation sites for COVID-19 cases and people who may have been exposed to infected persons.
Nine state universities and colleges, meanwhile, are being considered by the Commission on Higher Education as possible temporary quarantine facilities.
“These will be in addition to the five SUCs previously approved for the same purpose,” the President said.
