Beating Mongolia’s Blue Wolves, 2-0, the Philippine Azkals has won the first leg of the qualifying match in the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup, reports Inquirer.net. The home match was held today at the packed Panaad Stadium in Bacolod.
Emil “Chieffy” Caligdong scored the first goal in the 42nd minute, while Phil Younghusband delivered the second in the 92nd minute. ABS-CBN News quoted Caligdong: “Sobrang saya ko… Kung anong ibinigay na instructions ni Coach, ginawa ko lang.” (“I’m extremely happy… I just followed the instructions Coach Hans Michael Weiss gave.”)
Of the 18,000-strong home crowd that came to watch the game, Weiss said, “They are wonderful. Fantastic. I can’t find the words.”
The next match in the home-and-away series will be held on March 15 in Ulan Bator, Mongolia.
