Boy Abunda on finishing his masteral degree: ‘Kapag gusto mo, gagawin mo’

During his solo graduation rites at Philippine Women’s University yesterday, Boy Abunda, who finished a master’s degree in Communication Arts, cried tears of joy while delivering his speech in front of his beloved mentors and friends both from the academe and show business. I count my blessings. I am really grateful to so many people,” he said in an interview with

Boy further shared that he wanted to pursue his studies out of his desire to broaden his perspective as an interviewer and to be a better teacher and to be an agent of change through his chosen craft. “I learned the hard way not to believe in your own press releases. So when I was being told that I was good and I was excelling in my job as an interviewer, I wanted to work harder. Alam mo yun, dumadating sa buhay ng tao yung urge to push yourself to the edge, you have to be better, you have to be fair to your audience. Of course this isn’t a perfect journey, may mga pagkakamali, pero hindi ako mapapagod.

When asked how he was able to balance his career and studies at the same time, the respected TV host replied that the key is in the person’s determination coupled with the right motivation. Kasi I manage over 20 talents. I have four shows on TV, nag-aaral ako…

In fact, Boy’s already planning to go back to teaching this coming school year and to take up a doctorate on Social Development anytime soon. “Sabi nga ng isang Nobel Peace Prize winner, as a country, if you want to move out of poverty, we have to work on our public school system and public health system.
