Early Thursday, dela Rosa said in a statement that he didn’t like how the policemen of Manila Police District handled the scenario. He condemned the incident saying “ayaw na ayaw ko ang may nasasaktan”.
According to him, all of the MPD police involved in beating the militants will be suspended while the investigation is going on. The suspension includes 9 high ranking MPD officials. The policemen are now at the PNP headquarters.
“What is more important now is the safety of the victims in the hospital. Their recovery is our first priority” said dela Rosa in a statement.
The commotion started when Police Supt. Marcelino Pedrozo ,who is also under relief, ordered the policemen to disperse the people including the lumads who were about to finish their program.
“Magkagulo na kung magkagulo. Anong mukha ang maiharap natin sa US? Ang dami dami nyo wala pa kayong nahuhuli?” Pedrozo said in a video shared online.
This prompted to a policeman to drive a police van and intentionally rammed over the rallyists.
President Rodrigo Duterte who is in China for a state visit and known as leftists ally said that he will release an official statement as soon as he gets back to the country.
“I will have to investigate. I’ll have to make calls tonight. But just to be very sure that I do not commit or I do not stray along other side issues. I will just wait for the official announcement to make upon my arrival,” Duterte said in a news conference.
